Jazzy cartography

The art of making your establishing shots - read: driving around at medium speed through the city - oddly compelling.  The start of a film that runs parallel its '76 classmate, Rosi's Cadaveri Eccelenti, but with more blond-mustached men punching brown-mustached men as a moral corrective and with perhaps an even better sense of how to make didactic political cinema.  The city where I will live.

Sicuro. Been on a real kick of these recently. Weirdly, the standout was probably the late di Leo film Vacanze per un massacro. It's a negation-obsessed variation on a Teorema theme, albeit with Joe Dallesandro. Not at all the kind of film it is supposed to be.

I wish I was far more cultured about those old poliziotteschi. I did however do a gleeful triple take when Tomas Milian resurfaced two decades later as the general in Traffic.

He's an amazing one. But my money is on Maurizio Merli, my new style icon and combat tutor.
